Measurements

There are certains I know help me lose weight, and one of them is taking measurements. So I'm going to try to get back into the habit of doing them weekly, starting now.

Upper Arm: 12
Chest: 39
Waist: 33
Hips: 40.3
Upper thigh:  23.5

When I started training for my first half in June of 2010, my measurements were this (the last time I took them):
Upper Arm:14
Chest: 40
Waist: 35
Hips: 41

Not a whole lot of change. I think because I am still two size smaller and more fit than I have been, I give myself permission to slack way more often than I should, but that needs to stop if I want to get any more of these pounds off. I mentioned a revamp eating plan for this week. It includes:
 - Less eating out - trying for 1 lunch a week and eating dinner out only on weekends
 - More veggies
 - A bigger breakfast
 - Fewer sweets
 - No regular Cokes

What are your weight loss motivators? I get more encouraged my inches than pounds.

180.5

The no-good-very-bad 7K this weekend did one thing good: opened my eyes to the fact that I haven't really been working towards weight loss. Really working  - not "occasionally making better choice" but actually making a concious effort to eat right. My exercise has been spot on, but my food choices simply haven't been. And I'm not really happy with where I'm at. Or the lack of willpower that got me here.

I've never been good at food journaling, but I'm going to try again. And I'll be sharing fairly regular (maybe even daily) weight numbers for a while. 174 is  happy place for me, and I'd like to get there soon.

How do you stay motivated for weight loss?
- Reading and commenting on blogs helps me. I know I haven't been as comment-active as I like to be lately, and promise to get back to that, too.

Weigh in and Workouts

I'm heading to work today, and will have put in more than 80 hours this week! Sorry for the lack of commenting on all of your wonderful blogs - this week went by super fast.

I'm going to start weekly weigh-ins between now and Geist Half in May. Here's the thing: I don't diet, per say. Because diets make me not nice, and while I know how to limit calories to give me quick weightloss, those pounds tend to come back and bring friends. So I'm just trying to be more mindful of what I'm eating, limiting junk food and trying to make healthier choices but not giving anything up.

Week 1: 179.0

My workouts this week were good, even with the time constraints I've had.
Monday: 1 hour run, 4.6 miles, abs
Tuesday: abs and squats/lunges
Wednesday: 2 x 400 at mile race pace, abs and arms
Thursday: 2 mile tempo at 11:05,
Friday: Full body strength, 10 minutes on the seated ellipitcal (because I tried, and failed, again, to jump rope. Since when is rope jumping really hard?)

Tonight will be a quick workout since the husband and I are going out to dinner to celebrate our wedding anniversary (which is Monday).

What are your weekend plans?

An Update - what's next

I still have three Disney trip reviews to share (Cinderella's Castle, Animal Kingdom + Narcososee's, and a hotel review) but thought I'd give a quick update on my day-to-day happenings. I've been fighting a head cold since we got back on Tuesday, and work has been crazy trying to catch up and cover for a co-worker who is starting a two week vacation. My workouts have been good, if short:
 - Monday: walk around Disney
- Tuesday: 1 mile easy
 - Wednesday: full body weights and 10 minutes of rather unsuccessful jump rope
 - Thursday: rest
 - Friday: 1.25 mile run, abs, 10 minute bike
 - Saturday: 60 minutes on the stair machine, abs

I hope to get a long run in tomorrow before church.

After the PR at Princess, I feel really good about how my training is going, and in what shape I'm in. Now comes the question of where to go from here. Marathon training will start the second week of June for me, so that gives me a few months to work on other things. I'm running a 7k with a group from work on March 19th, but that won't require too much prep. Here's what I'm thinking:
 - Strength train more  - once a week at least
 - Do ab work every day (anyone done the 100 sit up challenge?)
 - Keep running: easy days, speed days, long runs
  - Choose and register for an April or May half
 - Focus on making better food choices, and hopefully drop some weight/inches before marathon training starts. Weekly weigh-ins, here I come.

In the spirit of weigh-in honesty, I was 179 today (amazingly low after the bingefest at Disney). In a perfect world, I'd like to toe the start line at Chicago at 165.

What are your weekend plans? I did some home decor shopping this morning, but am working later tonight and tomorrow.

Weekly Weigh-in

I'll be weighing in on Fridays - I like seeing progress of how my week has gone, since I'm more likely to  fall off the healthy wagon during the week than the weekend.

Last night, I ran two miles in 23:00, and then took a 45 minute Aqua Zumba class. I am seriously sore today - the water's resistance makes for a much harder workout than I've ever had in a regular aerobics class.

I am working this weekend, but will hopefully get in my long run tomorrow and take a yoga class, and then get a short run in Sunday. I also need to do my meal planning for next week.

180.5 is my new number. Not too shabby.

What are your weekend plans?

Ipod running

Today I did my first treadmill run with my new Ipod - it made it better, almost tolerable, but still not great. My listened to the part of the first act of the musical Rent, and the storytelling aspect of listening to a musical was nice. I did two miles in 23:01. Why I am so slow on the 'mill? I then did lunges, squats, and lifted biceps and triceps, followed by ten minutes of abs and stretching.
Here's my workout plan for the rest of the week:
T: 45 minute run
W: Hot Power Yoga
R: 3 miles run
F: Lift
S: Running group fun run and party - 2-4 miles
S: 70 minute run

I use both time and miles for runs, depending on what the goal is. Typically, I only use distance for runs with other people or for speedwork, and use time for anything by myself.

I have two Dick's Sporting Goods gift cards to use this week! I'm in need of a shell-type jacket as well as hand-held or belt water bottle. (recommendations on either of those?)

I weighed myself today to assess the holiday damage since I've avoided the scale since Thanksgiving. I have guarded my weight like a sacred secret my whole life. But in the sake of honesty, of losing the "ashamedness" and celebrating what my body can do, and in a way to kick start my lean-and-toned goals for 2011, I'm going to share that number with you. Don't judge. 183.

That feels damn good. Do you share your number?
