Days 5 and 6

I woke up with some shin pain Friday morning and decided that it would an "extra" cross training day instead of an easy run. I ended up riding the stationary bike for 20 minutes and lifting weights for thirty. This morning I helped build a deck on my first ever Habitat Build. After several unsuccessful attemps at driving nails, I became the official "go-fer" of the group.

I have been toying with the idea of running the half at next weekend's Carmel Marathon, which is about an hour and a half away from my house. I would have to drive up the night before since there is no race day packet pick-up. It looks like an awesome race, but there's an issue. No one else I know is running, DH doesn't want to go, and my mom has other plans for the weekend. So I would have to go alone and stay in a hotel by myself, something I am too much of a ninny to have done before and that I'm a little scared by. What would you do?

Day 2: Cardio Kickboxing

I'm planning on running 4 days a week during marathon training (which seems to be the max I can do with out getting hurt), and on filling my off days with crosstraining. The summer semester of exercise classes started at the local Y this week, and I decided to get a flex pass, which will let me try as many classes as I like between now and August.

After some upbody weight lifting and a short run/walk, I heading to cardio kickboxing, a class I was super excited about. How hardcore does the name sound? I was ready to be an exhausted, sweaty mess. However, only two other women came into class, and one of them was a 1st-timer like me. Before the class started, the instructor told us her "style of kickboxing was turbojam, or dance boxing" . . uh oh. If I want to dance, I'd have gone to Zumba. The hour long class had lots of lunges and booty shaking, but very little kicking or boxing, and intensity level was pretty low. Overall, underwhelming, and not a class I'll be back in.

Happy National Running Day today - how are you celebrating?

Also - DVC is Disney Vacation Club, a disney-owned timeshare program.

My Eats

Breakfast: Diet cherry coke, luna bar
Lunch: Greek yogurt with honey, oatmeal with pb, chocolate chips, banana and soymilk
Snack: whole wheat bagel and cream cheese
Dinner: 2 pieces of pizza, 2 cookies, and milk  (not the best choice, I know)

I went to the Y and did a quick workout once my class was over - stairmachine, lifted arms, and walked on an incline.

Good morning!

The weather had forecasted a "catastrophic ice storm" for my area, but luckily all we got was a about a 1/2 inch of ice and lots of rain.
Here's a quick recap of my past few days:
Sunday - work, 3 mile run in 32:14 with hubby, pizza for dinner
Monday: work, school, 45 minutes on the Arc Trainer, 20 minutes on the seated ellipitical, abs

The Arc Trainer is a new piece of equipment for me.
The biggest difference between this and a standard ellipitcal is that your knees stay slightly bent the entire rotation, like in a mini-squat position. I'm always looking for ways to work my legs muscles differently than running - but this is way different. I'm basically walking like I just off a horse today!

Princess is less than a month away! I have half my outfit for the half figured out, and a good idea of what I'm going to wear for the 5K. I'm getting a little panicked, but hopefully making a packing list later today will help!

Are you an overpacker or an underpacker?
I tend to take everything I could ever possibly need. The husband would only take one pair of socks for a week if I let him.

Last day of work!

Until Sunday. But three days off is better than nothing! I am carless more or less (Mine is technically driveable but looks like sh*t, so I won't go anywhere in it, in case some one would see me and think Hey, that's Savannah, she works for giant fabulous car manufacturer and her car sucks. I shouldn't buy new cars from giant fabulous car manufacturer because I would wreck it too. Let me buy another foreign car that isn't wrecked. Sorry for the craziness, car people think this way) until I drop off my car and get a rental tomorrow, so I replaced the planned trip to yoga with a trip to the Y with the husband. The Y has a new seated elliptical like this:
I like it. Much harder to do that it looks, and made the back of my legs scream after thirty minutes. And the arms swing, so if you don't sit up straight, you can hit yourself in the ears.
I then lifted weights and stretched, and went for Mexican food with the husband.
Hopefully I'll get both yoga and a run in tomorrow.

What's your favorite piece of cross training equipment?

Cross training

The Y has free classes every year during the three weeks around Christmas, and last night I decided to conquer a few fears (bathing suit wearing, dancing in public) and go to Aqua Zumba. The verdict: fun, harder than expected! My arms are seriously sore today from pushing through water for 45 minutes. It's a not a class I'd  want to regularly, but it was a fun change of pace.

There is enough food in my office today to go into full sugar overload. I'm trying to convince myself that the peanut butter cookies with the reese's cup inside count as a viable breakfast food.

Is your office food of sweet treats?

*Also just wanted to thank my followers!!! So happy to have you along for the journey.
